Receive SMS

Customers can receive SMS to a variety of software applications. In order to receive SMS, customers will need either a Virtual Mobile Number, Virtual SIM Hosting or SIM Card Hosting services.

Virtual Mobile Numbers (VMN)

VMN - Receive SMS via one of HSL's long dedicated numbers!

HSL's VMNs behave in the same manner as a regular mobile number and can also be termed MSISDN numbers, or long numbers. The VMN solution offers a significantly high throughput (20-50 SMS per second) with low message latency thus enabling clients to receive worldwide incoming (MO) SMS to their application via our UK (+447797) VMNs. A full list of networks within our VMN coverage range can be found in our Coverage and Pricing section.

Timestamp: When using the SMPP interface and certain VMN ranges that we provide, the exact time the SMS was sent by the mobile subscriber can be received.

Virtual SIM Hosting (VSIM)

VSIM - Receive SMS to a SIM number of your choice - excellent throughput!

The VSIM solution provides a high performance method of receiving up to 50 SMS per second through a customer supplied SIM. The mobile number of the SIM can be used to receive SMS without the restrictions of normal SIM card hosting. The service supports approximately 420 mobile networks worldwide and is a means of getting the performance of Virtual Mobile Numbers (VMNs) with the advantage of a national mobile number, e.g. a SIM from a mobile network in France for use with a service targeted at mobile users in France.

SIMs are hosted in specialised equipment on HSL's premises and are suitable for low volume traffic applications.
