Transport & Logistics
SMS is widely used within the transport and logistics sector as it is an efficient and cost effective means of improving service levels. Regular communication with employees and staff is made easier with SMS as it is instant and can cut costs significantly. Packages sent via courier firms can be tracked globally through SMS. To find out the status of a package a text message containing the AWB tracking number can be sent to a service number. In a handful of seconds the status of the package is received back in a separate message through an automated process. This can assist with increasing customer satisfaction and repeat business by providing a more efficient service.
The use for SMS within the Transport and Logistics sector is extremely varied. Airports and airlines use SMS to inform passengers of any changes and cancellations to flights, they also send passenger updates, special promotions and also use SMS within the airports for systems monitoring and communication between employees.
2-way communication can be established with drivers through SMS messaging. Tracking of vehicles and drivers can be conducted worldwide via SMS.
