Financial information can be personal and private to individuals. In mobile banking, SMS is an appropriate means for conveying such information as SMS is sent to the mobile phone of the individual and thus is not visible to unauthorised individuals. SMS text messaging is the preferred form of communication for many people and for banking and financial institutions it is a very convenient form of communication for both the organisation and customer. There are many uses for SMS within financial organisations for example, providing account balance information, conveying stock price information which is often of a time critical nature, fraud and transaction alerts and one-time password delivery for authentication.

SMS can be sent through secure means using a number of interfaces including SMTP and HTTP/S, and employing a VPN connection where necessary.
